CHIPSCollaborative Heuristic for Iterative Planning and Story-pointing
Self-hosted team estimation and planning · v2.2 · by EEZEEZEE

Estimate together.
Agree faster.

CHIPS runs planning poker and five other estimation techniques in the browser, in real time, on your own server. Plan each sprint against everyone's availability, see how every story connects, and learn how the team really estimates. Your team opens a link; nothing to install on anyone's laptop or phone.

What CHIPS does

From the first vote to the delivery date.

Each page shows a part of CHIPS with screenshots of the built-in demo, so you see the real thing with a realistic team and four sprints of data.

How it works

From backlog to estimates in one meeting.

Create a room

A room is a sprint: pick a project, its dates, a technique and the rules.

Bring the stories

From the project backlog, typed in, pasted from a spreadsheet, or pulled from Jira with a JQL query.

Share one link

The team joins from any browser: desktop, tablet or phone. Guests need no account.

Vote, reveal, plan

Save the estimate, assign the story and watch the sprint's capacity, dependencies and risks as you go.

New in 2.2 every edition

See how every story connects — and change it by dragging.

The relationship map puts each user story on a timeline of sprints, day by day, as a bar as long as its points, with the requirements it implements, what it depends on, the risks to it, and the decisions and assumptions about it.

  • Dependent stories line up after the stories they need; work that will not fit its sprint shows in red.
  • Drag a story to another day or sprint; drag a requirement, decision or risk onto a story to link it; select a line to remove it.
  • Hover over a story for its description and dates, or over a line for what the link means.
  • Dependencies planned in the wrong order show in red; the critical path is marked in gold.
  • Show or hide each kind of item: requirements, decisions, assumptions, risks, people.

Questions

Before you ask.

Can I try CHIPS without setting up a team?

Yes. After installing, choose Projects → Demo. CHIPS makes a ready-made sprint with eight people, 19 stories, an epic, three earlier sprints, a planned backlog, requirements, risks, decisions, a recorded call and the analytics. Its page has a guide to every feature with the demo's data. More about the demo.

Can we plan sprints in CHIPS, not just estimate?

Yes, from version 2.0. Each project has a ranked backlog, requirements traced to stories, acceptance criteria, dependencies, a sprint plan that warns about conflicts, a relationship map and a decisions log, in every edition. Team adds scores, coverage and risks; Enterprise adds auto-scheduling and what-if forecasts. Sprint planning.

Does CHIPS send any data to you?

No. CHIPS runs entirely on your server. License keys are checked offline with a digital signature, so there is no activation server and nothing phones home.

Does CHIPS work with Teams, Google Meet, Zoom or a phone conference?

Yes: each room can hold its call, and in Team and Enterprise the call can be recorded and transcribed on your own server. Calls and transcripts.

What does it cost?

Community is free for one installation with up to 3 scrum masters and 5 active rooms; people who only vote are always free. Pricing and editions.
